The sedating antidepressants such as Doxepin, Pamelor and Elavil are really good for treating depression and insomnia. Unfortunately, these drugs have the serious side effects. They will increase the blood pressure. Even worse, they can be lethal, especially in overdose. The other side effect of antidepressant relates to the behavior. It can increase the risk of suicide.
Between Antidepressant and Non-Medication Treatments
The effectiveness of antidepressant for insomnia is pretty high. On the most case, it helps the consumer to sleep better. But it only works for a few people. People with some health problem or people with a certain condition are not recommended to consume it. But anyway, the benefits and the risks of antidepressant is still fair enough.
As the alternative, people can take non-medication treatment. This treatment is also effective. But unfortunately, it takes a long time to see the result. It started from lifestyle changes. Simply, insomnia can be treated with the healthy lifestyle. The healthy food and exercise are the keys. Beside it, you also need to avoid the bad habits such as smoking and alcohol. Try to reschedule your sleeping time as well. At least, make sure to get sleep before 10 pm.
Caffeine will allow you stay awake in the night. For that, avoid caffeine after noon. Watch TV 1 up to 2 hours before getting sleep may worsen the insomnia as well. Instead of watching TV, it will be better to get a warm bath or getting soothing sound therapy. These are much safer than antidepressants for insomnia.
